The Helmsman Project

16 lucky Cumberland High School Year 9 students embark on a coaching and adventure journey and a unique sailing experience in 2015!

Cumberland High School is one of the few fortunate schools, and the first in Western Sydney, to embark on the Helmsman Project in 2015.

Mr Gambino will be supervising and sailing with the boys and Ms East will be supervising and sailing with the girls next year. The 16 students will be engaged in a 13 week coaching course that will assist students as they develop life effectiveness skills with a focus on hope, self-regulation and resilience. Through this course the students will participate in two adventure experiences that will involve sailing. In week 3 of the program students will sail for two days and one night. In week 6 of the program, students will sail for a whole week! Students will be equipped with the necessary crew skills to sail the James Craig or the Flying Fish yacht. What an extraordinary opportunity for our students!
