Enrolment

Our school can help with enrolment queries throughout the year.

Local enrolment area

Check your address on School Finder to see if it is within our local intake area. Most schools have designated local enrolment areas. Note: local enrolment areas are subject to change.

How to enrol

If you live in our intake area and would like to apply to enrol at our school, start by submitting an online enrolment application. Online enrolment is currently only available for Australian or New Zealand citizens and permanent residents.

If you are not able to apply online or you prefer not to, download the paper application to enrol (PDF 768.4KB) form. Please complete the form in English. A translated application to enrol may help you do this.

Online enrolment can also be used for out-of-area enrolment. Please note that out-of-area enrolment procedures are subject to the department’s enrolment policy.

Enrolment applications are finalised at the school.

Cumberland High is a multicultural environment, which happily supports and nurtures our many students from overseas who choose to complete their Australian education with us. A professional team comprising the International Student Coordinator, an Assistant Coordinator, Liaison Officers Chinese and Korean and an administration support officer, deals daily with the academic, welfare and compliance requirements for these students.

Our international student enrolments have remained consistently high over the many years that this program has run, with an average of 60 or more students per year coming predominantly from China, Korea, Vietnam, and the Philippines. Overseas promotional tours by the Cumberland High Principal to China and Korea have cemented relationships and links between the school and parents. Students are encouraged to immerse themselves in the school community and International Students regularly feature prominently in academic achievements across all grades and achieve well in the Higher School Certificate.

Cultural experiences are valued by our international students and they often have opportunities to explore aspects of life here, for example, Aboriginal culture and traditions at Muru Mittigar, where they learned about Aboriginal foods and hunting skills, with a bit of boomerang throwing in for good measure. The annual Science Show for international students is always a lot of fun for them, as are the special annual morning tea gatherings. Students come to us with many talents and skills and recently three international students were sponsored for creative experiences at the Sydney College of the Arts workshops for gifted Year 9 and 10 art students.

High Potential Gifted Education Program

Cumberland High School takes great pride in nurturing the development of its students' abilities. Our High Potential Gifted Education Program provides a variety of opportunities for students to extend themselves across all subject areas. The program offers enrichment and encourages mature thinking and advanced problem solving.

Our students are provided with opportunities to attend workshops like the Sydney Writer's Festival where they meet with inspiring authors who compose texts for young adults. During Science Week, the students visit the local Primary Schools in our Community of Schools, presenting workshops and experiments and engaging younger students in the exciting world of science.

The students develop their debating skills through a range of local and state competitions, attending workshops at Sydney University and Western Sydney University. Our students who are included in the program also participate in International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) competitions in English, Computing, Science and Mathematics, relishing the opportunity to extend themselves.

High Potential Gifted Education program application form to be uploaded soon.
